On Christmas...

We recently took a trip to the Sight & Sounds Theatre in Strasburg, PA to see The Miracle of Christmas. It was incredible and SO worth it as it really was the perfect way to begin our holiday season. While retailers have been shoving the secular aspect of the holiday down our throats for months now, it was nice to be reminded of the true meaning of this season. I admit that it's really easy to get caught up in it all, but this year we have, for many reasons, been trying to keep our focus on the birth of Jesus, and not the big guy in the red suit. Skip is at such an impressionable age right now, and we really and truly want to teach him what Christmas is all about. Of course a little poking around in some gift shops in Amish Country was an added bonus! I do think he understood alot more of the play than we thought he would initially, and even though at intermission, when asked how he was enjoying it he replied "Good, but it's not very funny", by the end, he realized this was a different kind of show. I suppose to an almost 6 year old, any theatrical production should be funny - that's the only kind he had known up until that point! Another way we keep our focus where it should be, is with the manger. As we always do, we took it out of the attic before anything else, but this year for the first time, Skip put it up. Other than a few too many sheep in the manager, he did a great job! But perhaps what made me happiest was yesterday when I asked him to tell me about Christmas. To my surprise & pleasure, he said, "It is when Jesus was born".
Yep, we're on the right track!

  1. What great pictures, and finding out what Christmas is all about. Skip is a very smart boy and has come so far and to this day he still amazes me. Keep up the good work and keep on surprising mommy. I love you.....
