The phone/internet connection here have been terrible. I am therefore gonna try and post updates from yesterday & today in segments. Below is Part one of probably 3... (Life in Russia!)
Yesterday morning we had an 8:00 appt. with one of the Dr.'s for Skip, then went to the Baby Home to visit Harry. He started with the Ne-hochay's so the caregiver asked him to choose a child to tag along and play with his Momma, Poppa & brother. He quickly chose Igor, and both boys were happy. Harry came out wearing some straw hat that looks like it was originally a little girl's easter bonnet, and wore it the ENTIRE visit. I tried to take it off him once and he got VERY insulted. Having Igor helped him alot. He clearly felt comfortable, and the two of them raised a little heck. They were just running, and tackling, and being boys. Of course Skip joined in, so it was total chaos. Since the gym was open for once, they let us play there. Cute little room with balls, some basketball hoops, ladders to climb, soft blocks, etc. They ran, and ran, and ran, and ran, all around the room. The best part was the little room before the gym. It has miniature treadmills, a trampoline, exercise bikes, and elipticals! Now we know how these Russian train their junior athletes! I bet those kids slept well yesterday, because they were just crazy, full of energy. My only fear was that one would get hurt - never know how a caregiver might react. They all seem very nice, and very encouraging to Harry, except for one who has just been indifferent...
Up to this point, Harry showed little interest in the snacks we brought each day. We usually got a "Ne-ho chay". Once in awhile he'd take one little thing. But, with Igor at his side, he wanted everything, searching through the bags even, to see what we had. The flashlight Harry loved so much broke finally, and they were disappointed. Both he & Igor thought it was great. I found a mini etch-a-sketch in my "magical bag" and gave it to Harry to check out. He liked it. ALOT. Anything with buttons and levers just intrigue them, for long periods.
Not once did Harry ask to leave and return to his Groupa, so we're making progress. Igor, as much of a handful as he is, has helped, I believe.
Stay tuned for part 2, coming soon!
