Okay this post is a request for input from waiting - either waiting in the US or waiting here (that means you Debbie!), but I'll welcome suggestions from ANYONE with ideas...
Debbie mentioned on her blog that she was very excited over the fact that Alex brought her a skillet. I know from experience - MUCH experience - that little things that we miss from our houses back home make life here SO much easier. It got me to thinking...
I have several things like that - which I've purchased (or in the case of one thing, I received as a gift at Christmas here two years ago) including TWO measuring cups - one cup and two cup - with both metric & US measurements, a dutch oven, a small (hotel room sized) 4-cup coffee pot, etc. that I'll have no need for back home and would LOVE to leave for other families to use. I'll also have HBA, a few toys, books, etc, that I don't want to bring home, but found valuable while here. What do ya'll think about putting them all together in a suitcase (I have a extra one actually) and "pay them forward". Maybe Irina or Alex could agree to hold on to the suitcase. Actually, maybe it can be kept in Alex's apt. since most families will likely stay there. I know the Burns family won't, but Irina can just grab it from ALex if she has family coming...what do you think?

Sounds logical to me.
ReplyDeleteGood idea - we have several things to leave behind also - including our very, very long phone line so we can sit in the bedroom or the living room or the kitchen table and still be connected to the internet! :) But I'll take those measuring cups as soon as you don't need them anymore - I cannot find them here! But I do have a lead on stickers - Tami says to look at bookstores or stationary stores. She was going to write the word down for me but forgot but I'll get it from her.
ReplyDeleteLeaving it behind for other families is a great idea. Someone will definitely appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Add a notebook/diary to the suitcase with your name and dates that you were there. And any other info you might want to leave for another family going through what you've been through. Then any family that uses the "Traveling Suitcase" can add to that notebook/diary. You might even want to throw a small Bible in there.
ReplyDeleteGee Danielle, that's an AWESOME IDEA! THANKS!
ReplyDeleteDebbie has a red suitcase I left for her with some stuff in it - so, if you need it - take that one too! Debbie, leave the flat iron in the traveling suitcase...
ReplyDeleteI always wondered about the stuff I had purchased there. There is an apartment somewhere with a full set of dishes, coffee pot etc. Every time I go, I end up buying a pot or a pan...seriously!? Where does this stuff go!
We would all save some serious cash if we had everything we needed to survive in an apartment there! LOVE the idea! Now, how to get it from one person to the next...wonder if the Jackson's would mind housing the traveling suitcase?
We could also leave un-usued internet cards.
It's like the diary of the traveling pants...only a suitcase :)
GRAMMY SAYS "Sounds good"
ReplyDeleteI always love the idea of paying it forward. That would be such a wonderful thing to leave for someone!
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea! I'm with Kathy, I do wonder what happens to all of the stuff that is left behind. We left so many things behind but seems as if they've disappeared. Maybe keeping them in a suitcase would take care of that. We also left a photo album and journal in the Kandazana (sp?) street apartment which we thought would be nice for families to add to. But I'm not sure if it's still there or not. Debbie should ask Alex about it.
