Mike: Apple Juice or Cherry Juice
Harry: Coke
Mike: No, Juice
Harry: Coke
Harry: Coke
Mike: No, Juice
Harry: Coke
Mike: This one - Apple? Or this one, Cherry?
Harry: Coke
Mike: Apple Juice or Cherry Juice
Harry: LooBloo Coke (I love Coke)
Mike: Me too. But for breakfast I guess you’ll drink Cherry…
And so the morning was underway. Harry was a bit wound up today – an octopus who was all hands. This whole “house” thing is new to him of course, and its as if he really knows that this is the real thing. No back and forth to the Baby Home, he’s free to explore. The fridge absolutely intrigues him. He opens, takes something out. We tell him, No, back please. He complies. A minute later, same thing. This goes on and on. He loves to see the stove, and when he points to the fire we tell him “hot”. He repeats “ot”. Then he takes something from the fridge & we tell him “cold”. “Cold” he repeats. Each time he smells something new in the kitchen, he’s right there investigating. And of course, while he’s in there, he takes a few peeks inside the fridge – wondering perhaps if the food sprouted feet and walked away. Seems he’s standing guard. And doing a fine job of it! Twice he spotted yogurt and pled with us to have some. There are worse things (or better – depending on how you wanna look at it) so we tell him ok. He eats it all, licking the foil cover. Having the juice at his level seems convenient for him too. He asked for a drink, insisted on pouring it himself, then drank it. He asked for more, but since it was close to lunch time I told him no. He starts spouting in Russian, and only when I notice he’s waving the cap in his hand, do I realize he must be telling me he wants to put the cover back on. (Harry is a perfectionist in that aspect – he insists on putting everything where it should be) I tell him okay, and hand him the almost empty container as I continue to peel potatoes. When I turn around a few minutes later I realize he had poured himself the rest – and drank it. In his defense, this freedom is so new to him. We have to cut him some slack. On the other hand, unlike most 4 year-olds, he can’t be left alone ANYWHERE in the house. Socially, he’s like a one-year-old who has just discovered the freedom his bring him when he learns to walk. He managed to get into the owners perfume today and apparently applied some to his neck. He reeked! Another time he picked up the phone and began to speak to the Levi. Of course it was pretend, but you’d never know it. He picked up the phone, said, “Hello” “Hi Levi” then “OOOooooooohhhh” as if Levi had just told him some deep dark secret. Then he started saying “Da-Da-Da” the way we hear Russians do when they are on the phone. The equivalent of “Yeah, Yeah, Yeah”. It went on and on, til finally he said “Paka Levi” and hung up. Later I took my eye off him for a minute, but then was relieved he was behaving nicely. He was sitting at the desk with a pen and paper, writing. "Writing?" I asked him. "Da" he responded proudly. Mike noticed later on the paper turned out to be a greeting card that belongs to the apt. owner. He had taken it off the bookshelf and decided to add his own personal message. Let's hope she wasn't too attached to the card!
We’re amazed at how he’s picking up the English too. He was playing by himself, looking through a bin of little figures and came across one that was missing some parts. To nobody in particular he said, “Broken” in perfect English. Later I was trying to encourage him to help me put the number blocks away, (mind you we haven’t counted with him since the fall) I put the first three blocks in a row and said, “one, two, three” hoping he’d repeat. Instead, he continued “four, five”. He also remembers “light on, light off” and when we prompted him to say I love you when he really WAS on the phone with Levi, he said, without hesitating, I love you Levi”.
It has been a very active day, and other than the nap that Harry took, he has been in constant motion. He should go to sleep easily, and once he does, I sure am! Need my rest, because, tomorrow, is a whole new day of discovery!

I gotta tell ya – I’ll take chasing Harry around over searching for Eagle Seals, ANY DAY!
Harry finds it quite funny how Skip can hold his breath underwater for like 20 seconds!
Coke in, Coke out...let's see how many times I can do this!
Reading before bed. Harry is thrilled with his very own rolling backpack/suitcase - but thinks it's an accordian and wears it around his neck!

The sight of his big brother holing his breath under water is very amusing to him as you can see the expression on his face which shows he is very impressed
ReplyDeleteOMG! your in trouble now Judy all 3 sleeping let's hope the other two don't SNORE!
ReplyDeleteToni
ReplyDeleteThe little guys don't snore (well Harry doesn't and Skip hasn't since he had his tonsils out!)It's the big kid that keeps us up with the snorin'!
