We arrived at the Baby Home today, not knowing what to expect from Harry. Yesterday in Court the Head Doctor, as part of his testimony, stated that over the past week Harry had been having some "episodes". The reason he said, was that he kept asking for his parent, and were upset they couldn't come for him! So we expected him to be upset. But, when he saw us, he was quite happy. He came over, gave me a hug, and when I asked him if he wanted to play, he smiled, took my hand, and "Da".
At lunch time they called him into the room to eat - we thought they somehow got their wires crossed, and after eating, they'd march him to sleep, as is their routine. They sleep from 12:30 til 3:30! We thought for sure we'd have to leave, and come back at 3:30 since Irina hadn't arrived with his permission slip to leave for the weekend. t 12:30, th kids, now in their undies, came marching into the bedroom and we were told to go into the mudroom and wait. Ugh. But then I looked and Harry wasn't in line. He was in the main room, and they called him out to play with us in the Mudroom. Relieved, we started to play, but then we were invited to come into the Main room where they had set out tea & cookies for us. The royal treatment! We were there about a half hour when Irina came for us. She talked to Harry, and he followed us to the mudroom to get dressed. No fussing this time - last fall he fussed EVERY VISIT when it came time to dress up! While I was dressing him, Mike asked Irina if they had explained to him this was just an overniter, not wanting to confuse him.
Irina smiled and said that it wasn't overnite. This was it! He was coming home! We were shocked, yet thrilled! They then woke Danil up, and had him say good-bye to Harry. The two boys hugs. It was VERY touching. Larissa, the head caregiver spoke to him, hugged him, and fought back tears. WHen I had Harry say "I Love you" to her, she couldn't fight the tears!
I was kicking myself for not bringing the camera! Anyway, after dressing and saying good-bye to the other caregiver, we started out. The Psychiatrist met us in the hall and hugged him as well, giving him a few little toys to bring home with him.
The real tears however came at the door when the woman who we call the greeter, (she watches who comes and goes - sorta guarding the door) came over, already crying. She grabbed him and hugged his fiercely, crying openly as she said good-bye. I thought sure this would upset Harry, but, nope, he stood proud. Anxious to come home!
We are here in the apt. now, like any other "normal" family. The boys are playing together, and we are going about our daily routine. Hard to believe that a few days ago, we could only dream about this day - and here we are, by the grace of God!
We are going for dinner about 4:30 to Angarsk Hill, so in awhile I'll have the boys "nap" aka "rest". But for now, I'll let them play, and I'll just watch my boys...

I cried and cried all day today. I am rejoicing and drinking Champaign for you! I called everyone I know and then some! Yes - it gives a person great hope. Praise God! Out of curiosity...how was Stepanova at that meeting? What was her demeanor?

Happy too at this latest news that you can wait out the last few days with Harry with you at the apartment. Judy thanks for keeping us all up to date with the blog. Your comments and insights are priceless. You should think about writing a book!
ReplyDeleteOK, now I am crying!
ReplyDeleteJust seeing Harry's smiling face last night was the encouragement we need to get through this next week. We will be doing our "offense practice" this week!
ReplyDeleteI love how you said, like a "normal" family! You've been a family for soooo long now, now you will begin the journey as a "normal" one!!
